THEA

I just realized I never posted about the THEA! Well i haven't gotten my test results yet, [I'm hoping that it will come today seeing as it's three days past the two week mark] but if you were praying for me while i was taking the test, I just want to say thank you! I was worried about being overwhelmed and that i wont "be shaking so much that I can't hold my pencil =P". Well thanks to the many prayers others and myself had prayed, I felt like i had done it a thousand times before! I wasn't in the least bit nervous, i felt very confident, and if i shook it was just from the cold room =P! If i didn't know an answer usually i would get overwhelmed and i would feel stupid, but instead of allowing those feelings to seep in, I prayed for God to show me the answer, because he knows the answer. It was amazing!

Thanks again to all who prayed,

I think I'm gonna go check the mail now...hopefully my results are in there =P

Tests and Aliens

Tomorrow I am going to take the THEA [Texas Higher Education Assessment] test, and I'm very nervous! Whenever I get really nervous I usually shake or get really cold, so I'm praying like crazy that I'll be able to concentrate, and to be calm, so that I won't be shaking so much that I can't hold my pencil =P
After I take the test I'm going to a thing at my church called Disciple Now. It's kind of like a big lock-in from Saturday and 10am to Sunday night. So at least I have something to look forward to after the test, even though I'm gonna be late because of it. The theme for disciple now this year is "Alien Rising". We're gonna be learning about how we as Christians should be 'aliens' to the people and things of this world, we should stand out for Christ. Anyway I'm really excited! =D

Please pray for me! I'll blog results later =)

The Grapes of Wrath Essay

The Grapes of Wrath is a novel written by John Steinbeck about the Joad family and their journey to California. They travel with the desperate hopes of finding a superior life, but they must deal with the disappointment of finding their hopes false. In the third chapter of The Grapes of Wrath, John Steinbeck describes a turtle that, in more ways than one, reflects the story of the migrants and their pilgrimage.

In the beginning of the chapter the turtle is described moving slowly, but with confidence, toward a road, which he is determined to cross. The turtle comes across a bump, which would likely be very hard to climb, but with great perseverance sets to climb over it. He struggles for a while, often getting stuck for a moment, before he finally reaches the other side. The comparison to the turtle and the migrants in this instance is that they began their journey to California, knowing of the great “bump” they would have to climb: lack of money. But they pressed on, and through many troubles and problems, somehow found a way there.

As the turtle continues on, a car makes it’s way down the road toward him. The car, slightly startled, moves so as to not hit the turtle. Confused, the car continues down the road, but now with more caution. Then a second car heads toward the turtle, but when seeing it in the road, the driver is outraged and he swerves, aiming to hit the turtle. The first car represents the travelers starting out to California. The Californians at first left them alone but they began to grow suspicious at the rapidly growing number of migrants. Then, as the second car reflects, they grew outraged at the amount of people coming in taking away their jobs, and crowding up the state. Hatred formed inside the hearts of the Californians toward the migrants, and they did everything they could think of to get rid of them.

When the second car had swerved to hit the turtle, it only hit the edge of its shell, the impact of which caused the turtle to fly back to the side of the road where he had began. The turtle landed on it’s back side, and after a few moments of hiding, he cautiously stuck his head and legs out. He began scrambling for something to pull him over. Finally he found a piece of quartz and, with some difficulty, pulled himself upright again. He began to head toward the road again with the same determination. The migrants were hurt by the terrible hatred and actions sent toward them, but they kept on going, they kept on fighting, and they kept on hoping.

The Princess and the Pea

PhotobucketHere is a poem i have made from the story of The Princess and the Pea

There once was a Prince, so noble and kind
Who searched the world over to find his bride
He looked for a princess (of which there was a great deal)
But he searched for one who was special and real.

Though he searched for quite a while,
And the princesses he met were very sublime,
He soon returned home with a broken heart,
For he had not found what he had sought.

One night as the prince slept soundly in bed,
A terrible storm brewed overhead.
And as the storm fiercely roared,
A gentle knock was heard on the door.

The wise old king rose to see who was there,
But what he saw at the door caused him to stare.
There standing in the doorway was a princess,
Who, because the wind and the rain, was a mess.

Water fell from her hair and her clothes,
All the way down from her head to her toes.
She claimed to truly be a real princess,
Even though she did not look authentic.

So the Queen decided to test this claim,
And under the princesses mattress she laid,
A small green pea, the size of a bead,
On top she laid many mattresses, numbering twenty.

On top of the mattresses also she laid,
Twenty eider-down beds, that were homemade.
On this the princess slept all night,
And when she arose she seemed very up tight.

When it was inquired of her how she had slept,
She replied with a sigh, “Not well I regret,
Heaven only knows what was in my bed
Because of it I am bruised quite a bit.

Now the Queen knew that she was a real princess
Because no one but a real princess could be that sensitive.
So the Prince and the Princess fell madly in love,And the Prince’s search was now over and done.

The Titanic

helloHere is a story that I am in the process of writing, for my composition class:

Tuesday, 9 April 1912
The South Western Hotel
Southampton, England

Dear Diary,
I feel rather a fool for writing down my thoughts, but seeing as my beloved brother Charles gave this diary to me, I am content to feel a fool. He gave me this as a parting gift,
for tomorrow I will be leaving England on the great R.M.S. Titanic, and I’ll be on my way to America, to live with my Aunt Caroline.
I suppose I might state a little bit about myself. My name is Adelaide Gibson, I am thirteen years old, and I am an orphan. My brother is sending me to America, because as he says, I will have a chance to live a better life, and maybe even attend school, for Aunt Caroline happens to be quite wealthy. I have never been to school, nor do I wish to, but Charles has a very persuasive way of saying things, so I have consented, even though I know I will miss him terribly.
You might be wondering how I am able to afford this trip, on such a marvelous ship on her maiden voyage. I am traveling with a lady, Mrs. Douglas, as her companion, all expenses paid, because her husband did not wish her to travel alone. My First impression of Mrs. Douglas was not a pleasant one, for she called me Adie instead of my full name Adelaide, and I detest nicknames, but I have decided that I will be pleasant with her, for it would be a long and gruesome trip if we despised each other.
I have discovered that money is no object to the Douglas’. The hotel we are staying at before our departure is the grandest thing I have ever beheld. I am staying in my own room, which has a bathroom almost the size of the orphanage that I used to live at. The bathtub was simply divine; I have had two long and luxurious baths just because it was there. So many times I have been weeks without a bath since my mother and father died…
There is Mrs. Douglas knocking at my door now, it’s time for dinner.

Later

When I opened my door to leave with Mrs. Douglas to dine at the restaurant, I saw in her hand the most beautiful, extravagant dresses I had ever seen. “ I can’t have you looking like a beggar in those rags you call clothes” and with that she handed me the dresses and told me to come knock on her door when I found myself presentable. I slipped on a creamy yellow colored dress that seemed to have the least amount of lace, but when I tried on the white slippers she had also handed me, my feet constantly slid around because of the silk fabric. I took the beautiful little slippers off and put back on my rugged old boots. They definitely weren’t quite as delicate as the slippers but at least my feet did not slip around, and the dress was long enough so that they were not visible.
I am simply stuffed from the meal that we had. I had never seen such a variety of foods. I am sure that Mrs. Douglas was quite appalled at how downed so much food, and even now I regret it, but I simply could not contain myself.
As I sit here in my hotel room writing, I am gazing out of the window at a breath taking view of the ocean. And As I look I can see the R.M.S. Titanic. I find it quite puzzling how something so massive could float, but there it was, shining in all its glory floating on the calm sparkling waters, waiting to float away on its maiden voyage. I have never been on a boat, and am very excited, but I also am very nervous about seasickness. I do hope so much that I will not be affected much with this illness, for Mrs. Douglas says that the R.M.S. Titanic has three times the splendor of this hotel, which I have difficulty believing so, but if it is true I do not want to be confined to my quarters the whole trip.
I suppose I better get some rest, so that I will be able to rise early and get ready
for our departure.

Compositon Project

I am taking an online composition class and one of our assignmets was to write a story in a certain time period, we had 45 minutes, with a prompt that the teacher gave us. Our prompt was: You're sleeping and you wake up because of a loud noise, you go to your window and see a UFO. Write what happens next. Here's what i wrote....

I crept slowly upstairs, wincing after every little sound I heard,
“I need to stop watching those Sci-Fi movies," I thought to myself,
“They creep me out too much.” As I came to my door I hesitated
turning the doorknob, for fear of not knowing what was behind it.
The door creaked as I carefully opened it and peered inside. It
seemed clear enough, but I wasn’t going to take any chances. I
sprinted toward my bed, and hurriedly wrapped myself in my large
warm quilt, not even taking the time to change into my pajamas. I
soon fell into a worried dream-filled sleep.
Deep into the night I was startled awake by a strange noise. I
squinted through the peephole I had created for myself through the
blanket, and saw a strange green light coming through my window. I
rose out of my bed and crept toward the window, carefully keeping
my quilt wrapped tightly around me. As I came to the window the
light rapidly started changing colors. “Am I seeing what I think I’m
seeing?” I thought as I gazed at a silver object, with a saucer like
shape, descending toward me.
Suddenly a fantastically bright light blinded me. My window flew
open and a strong gust of wind knocked me over. As I looked into
the light I could see a form coming towards me. By the shadow I
could tell that is was no human form; it seemed to have at least three
heads. It came closer to me and by now I could see it’s skin, it’s blue,
scaly, slimy, skin. I was terrified, and yet a little excited to be seeing
an actual alien. Now it was hovering over me, I hid myself
underneath my quilt, expecting any second to be abducted or blown
into pieces. When I had waited there for a few minutes and nothing
had happened I gazed out my blanket. I was lying in my bed, I
rushed toward my window, and all I could see was the street below.
“It must have just been a dream, or was it? I suppose I will never
know”, I mused, as I headed back to my bed.
